JC Penny has our back

It’s so refreshing to see a large corporation have the guts to take a stand on such a (pointlessly) controversial topic. There’s nothing much to say about this other than the fact that it’s a great step forward. Hopefully other companies will follow suit.

Thank you.

Ok, ok, maybe Wi-Fi on Everest isn’t such a bad idea

A while ago I was a little angry about the fact that Mount Everest had become a wi-fi hotspot. Looking back on that post, I am actually a bit surprised about how pissed I was. Sorry?

But, I just learned about a cool collaboration between North Face and National Geographic. They’ve created a hashtag #oneverest, by which anybody can view their 2012 team’s progress as they trek from Nepal to the summit.

So, it looks like I have to backtrack a bit on my previous statements because two things I’m extremely obsessed with, climbing + instagram, are about to be combined into a hopefully mind-blowing set of images through which I can live vicariously from the safety of my living room couch.

Can’t wait!

Incredible portraits + stories by Chris ArnadeJoey, from Trinidad, was on a busy corner panhandling. A month ago he was kicked out of his house by his fiance after a period of heavy drinking brought on by job loss and family problems. He was staying briefly in a Manhattan homeless shelter but was “beat up, robbed, and messed up while sleeping” by two other residents. Released by Bellvue hospital two days ago he has “nothing and nobody.” He will not go back to a shelter.

In New York City everyone, including undocumented immigrants, have the right to a shelter. Many, like Jaime prefer the streets, viewing it as the safer option.

I bought him a sandwich and he asked me to post this picture in the hope that his fiance sees it.
